Massillon Tigers vs Austintown Fitch Falcons High School 2021 Football Game of the Week updates

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Massillon is looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to St. Edward. Fitch is after another resume-building victory over his second Stark County nemesis (defeated Canton McKinley earlier in the year).

After holding the Tigers to a punt in their first practice, the Falcons started their first possession on their own 1-yard line. Ninety-nine yards later, Cam Smith ran into the end zone to give Fitch the 7-0 lead. The training was highlighted by Jayden Eley’s long take from Devin Sherwood to give the Falcons some breathing space.

Following an interception by Tyler Evans, Fitch only needed 41 yards to reach the end zone. Sherwood caught it 20 yards in the opening play of the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead.

After a fumble deep into Fitch’s territory that was picked up by Massillon senior linebacker Nathan Depuy, the Tigers conceded a 15-yard touchdown from Jalen Slaughter to Ardell Banks to cut the lead in half (14-7).

Shane Rue had a 42-yard field goal through the uprights late in the second quarter to reduce Fitch’s lead even further to 14-10. The Tigers featured a pair of important plays on the record – a run from Camden Beasley and a catch from Austin Brawley.

In subsequent practice, Sherwood found Tyler Evans on a 72-yard catch and run, but Tigers defensive back Ryan Zentkovich tracked down the Falcon wide receiver to get the ball out of the end zone for a touchback. .

Then Slaughter found Brawley on a 50-yard pass to put the Tigers into Fitch territory. From there, Banks grabbed a 30-yard showdown offer for his second score of the day to give Massillon his first lead, 17-14.

To open the second half, Fitch scored on a 26-yard pass from Sherwood to Tyler Evans – who made a fantastic grab to reclaim the hold in the back corner of the end zone. Sherwood converted three 3rd games down during the drive. Two were picked up by the quarterback. Then, the 3rd touchdown catches up to gain the 21-17 advantage.
