The Pink Bakery, a vegan bakery in Collierville, Tennessee, recently received great news when pop superstar Beyoncé awarded the company $ 10,000 from the Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund, established earlier this year by the association Beyoncé de Beyoncé nonprofit in partnership with the National Association for the Advancement of People of Color (NAACP).
The grant was given to black-owned small business owners who have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The Pink Bakery, known for its famous No Frownie Brownies, had suffered the effects of the economic downturn which were particularly severe for black-owned businesses, many of which entered this under-capitalized crisis.
“I am always at the highest since [the] announcement and I can’t believe my business is on Beyonce’s website right now with the other Round 2 recipients, ”said Nubian Simmons, Founder of Pink Bakery. VegNews.
According to Simmons, the grant money will be used to purchase ingredients, pay off business debt, and improve the packaging of the company’s products. His business specializes in custom bakery orders, which were cut short when the coronavirus hit.
The Pink Bakery seeks to provide its customers with desserts free from the eight major allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy). In recent months, the bakery has turned to creating and selling home baking mixes to comply with the contactless rules.
